Looking to fit a winch on my Paj, but Im on a budget!

Anyone know if these are any good

I wont be doing any serious off roading, but could do with some help during our harsh winters

Cheers

I think they'd be OK for occasional use. 1200lbs line pull will be more than enough for your requirements (light off-road use) ... unless you're really 'bogged down' or have punctured tyres - either way, pulley block and a 'double-line pull' would then be order of the day.

Personal note - I wouldn't rely on the wireless remote controls. Keep the wander lead safe where it's not going to get broken, maybe even consider 'in-cab' winch controls (although this may be overkill for limited useage).

Don't forget to fit an isolation switch.

a mate has one of these and it works well, the remote is one of the better ones (some are really naf) but as said always take the leaded one with you.

Had one similar for 3 years, doesnt get much use, but pulls OK, the ratio (254:1) is quite slow and they are a bit clunky and noisy, mine lives under a nice little cover and is regularly blasted with oil.

One that doesnt get much use sounds ideal... generally Id like not to be stuck too often :o)

Ok, so that gearing is pretty slow.... what about some of the others Iv seen at a similair price with a 198:1 ratio? That should be a little quicker right? Or have I got that all t*** about a***?

No you are rightmost common is 174 : 1 (ish) with 254 being more for recovery work, basically means smaller motor - bigger pull. My other winch is a Warn 9.5 XP which is 152:1 and then I stuck a genuine 6.5 hp motor on it which isnt as quick as an 8724, but it doesnt slow down under load !

Thanks chaps

Il maybe look at one with a slightly lower ration then - Im pretty impatient!

I plan to mount it between the chassis horns behind the stock bumper, and move the fairlead onto the bumper itself, then add a front towhitch so I can use the same winch with my trailer. Dont fancy buying 2 winches much.
