Hi I Hope Somebody Can Help Me,I Have A 2.5 TD Pajero On A 1991 That Has Only Done 90000 Mile,The Problem Is I Have Oil Coming Out Of The Dipstick Or So I Think It Is I Have noticed The Breather Pipe From Ahead That Goes Into Air Filter Has Been Disconnected From The Air Filter And Has Got A Metal Gauze Filter On The End Of The Pipe And That Too Is Dropping Oil Out When The Engine Is Running,Hence That Is Why I Think It Was Took Out The Air Filter I Have Run It At 3000 Revs For A Couple Of Minutes And The Engine Sounds Sweet As A Nut With No Knocking Or Banging Anywhere From The Engine At All,Also I Have An Oil Leak At The Bottom Of The Crank Or So I Think It Is,Where The Plate Is Near The Sump That Too Drips When The Engines Running,The Turbo Works Fine And I Am Not Losing Any Power AT All Having Done 400 Miles In It In 3 Days,Could It Be A Breather Blot Or Something Else? As I Said Before,The Engine Runs As Smooth As Anything,Please Help If You Can,Thanks,Paul.

First of all, welcome to the club.
Do you know when the truck last had an oil change? oil filter, fuel filter and air filter, the reason I ask this is because these trucks LOVES regular serviceing about 3 / 4,000 miles.
The oil leak from the oil dipstick, needs dipstick and holder pulling out of the side of the block and the O ring changeing, thats to say, if the old one is still in place, as regards to the crank oil seal, is this the front one or the rear one that the leak is coming from? if its the front one, then that needs changing, you could also remove the inter cooler and give that a good clean out too with brake cleaner, but make sure that you leave it for a couple of hours to dry out after you have cleaned it, well thats enough to start with, for you to rectifey, then come back and we will give you some more advice, if you so need any, Ok.

hi, thanks for the reply, it was appreciated. i have just changed the oil and filter, the inter cooler sounds a good idea, i will do that for sure, also the oil only spits out when the dip stick is removed, the seal is leakin just near the plate the one what is held on by 4 bolts. sorry for the lack of information, but this is all new to me, yes i do agree that the seal or gasket will want chgangin, thanks again paul.

Sorry for this second question of asking, is it the rear crank oil seal that you are trying to describe that is leaking, this plate with the four bolts, is it attached to the bell housing of the gearbox ?? if so, then the oil leak, as you say, could be coming from the two half moons, of the rocker cover gasket, quick check, try and push your hand down the back of the rocker cover at the back of the engine, between the rocker cover and the bulkhead at the back of the engine and see if you can feel any oil coming out of the rocker cover, this is were the two half moons are situated, if you find that this is where the oil leak is coming from, then change the rocker cover gasket, ok best of luck.

Mmmm indeed. Th eoil around the rear of the engine could well be the rocker cover/half moon seal.

I had the scratchy head syndrome for ages on my 2.5TD. If yo uwant a How To....... guide on the rocker cover and half moon seal, give me a shout. When doing this, you also need to replace the two top washer rubber seals that hold the rocker cover in place.

TOP TIP: If you are ordering the parts to do this, use ONLY a genuine Mitsubishi items, they aint tat expensive and they save doing the job twice. You will also need some High-temp RTV sealant.

sorry i forgot, would you think that it would be best to put the pipe back in the air fiter, as the gauze filter does weep oil out, thanks again

Hi,
Untill you find out what is causeing this to happen, I suggest that you place a catchment item and put the pipe into this, ie, a plastic container and as and when it fills up, you can pour it back into the top of the engine, Via the oil filler hole on top of the rocker cover OK

Best of luck in finding just what is causeing this to happen.

that sounds a good idea, i have had a mate round, and had a good look round, the oil it seems is coming out of the oil flller cap, i cleaned the engine, almost completly free of excess oil now, and the oil is just like you said is going down the back, and round the bell housing, and just dripping of that at the bottom. guna put a new cap on and do a few miles and see what happens then but about the heavy breathing thats another thing, thanks again for the advice, yet again.

i have finaly found the leak, (phew)havin spent 3 days cleaning and srubbing the exess oil off,[smilie=grrrrrr.gif]with alot of help from the boys here. the oil is coming from the oil filler cap, on the rocker cover i have tried 3 caps with no avail so i have to replace the rocker cover, it leaked from there down the back of the engine, round the bell housing on the floor, (has any 1 got a rocker cover). the air breather will be sorted as well has, and i will keep you all posted on the problem, for future reference:), thanks again,
