NO OVERDRIVE even if the button is already on. very high rpm. speed of 100 kmp reaches 3400rpm.maximum speed only 100kmp cant go beyond it.maybe because theres no top gear. change the temp sensor but to no avail. where can i find the solenoid that controls the speed sensor? can somebody post a pics of the ecu, where also can it be found ? is there any relation to the adjustment timing of injection pump which prevent the engage of top gear. my injection pump is set at standard timing.

Hope this helps, this is the OD solenoid, that gets a signal from the temp sensor, sounds to me like it it's either an ATF problem or the OD solenoid is NFG, or worse the BOX[smilie=geesturbed.: could also be kick down cable needs adjustinghttp://www.plcuk.co.uk/%5BIMG%5Dhttp://i377.photobucket.com/albums/oo217/minisniperthefirst/BOX.jpg%5B/IMG%5D

Yes M8 you can get under and touch it, if your trying to find out if it's working I would suggest you run an earth to the temp sensor and take it for a run and see what happens, alternatively get it warmed up and get someone in the truck you can trust (Not the wife [smilie=dj-wtf.gif]) start it up get them to put it into drive with handbrake on and foot on Brake then flick the OD switch a few times while you are underneath you should feel it clicking if the solenoid is working ok HTH
Gearbox ECU is above brake pedal , its the one with the blue plug

tnx for that nets, i found the gearbox ecu and elctronic speedo, nothing unusual nor loose on these connection, so im still puzzled whats wrong with my OD why not functioning.though ive not yet tried going underneath while someone in the driver seat revving the pedal just to hear the clicking of solenoid, creepy i shall say,:). i may look for shop to lift it up for safety purposes.
BTW nets, i did read your thread on OD probs also, how did you able to solve yours?what was the mean cause? and pls share your experience on that to give me other resort of what to do and look for. thanx advance mate.[smilie=dj-wtf.gif]

Hiya M8 before you do anything else have you tried running a negative to the temp sensor and taking it for a drive to see if there are any changes

actually i bought a new temp sensor as what had been the case in most of the OD probs.i didnt bother to earth it since its new and genuine from mitsu comp., i assume its good. btw, my electrical line going to the sensor has been scratch and altered so its not anymore covered with the factory electrical sleeve. just to be sure, i used the blue wire with white stripe for the temp connector sensor its the most consistent color code for wire temp sensor going to gearbox, as what ive read in one of the threads here.did i pick the right one or what? other wires colors left hanging are black and green with stripes.

greetings to all who had followed the issues of overdrive.AT LAST M savoring THE SATISFACTION OF A MONTERO OWNER!!!.LOL.my OD is now functional. what a stubborn ive been,i never actually missed to read the basic rule of OD lost... "due to temp sensor failure" but id never really tried earthing the wire coz i believed i had new temp sensor out of the box straight from Mitsu house, and i then felt it was not necessary to do so. NGEEEK! what A S@@t,it was mere knuckled piece of CRAP! despite its genuinity and being new.
What I did: i earted the blue with white stripe(which is in fact the temp sensor for the tranny sensing) wire and HOOLAH!!! there goes OD.so it was that crap "temp sensor" agonizes my days on the road.i went to a friend and find a used temp sensor originally from 4m40 engine, installed this day and im the happiest montero driver today in the road i cruised. TEMP SENSOR MATE, IT WAS JUST THE TEMP SENSOR.tsk tsk! thanks for the advise Netsniper and the rest of the guys and mates in this wonderful site. You made my Montero experience fruitful and colorful now.\\:D/
Well I'm glad you are sorted !
A montero owner eh ? Must be in North America !
My brother lives in Oakland, CA, he has a "montero" as well !

Hiya on this engine it is the temp Sender at the front. See below
(It is usually a blue and white wire)

I think netsniper is 100% spot on with his diagnosis of the o/d fault as my 2.5 mitsi pajero also lost o/d and after changing temp sensors, tracing wires, changing relays and finally changing the gearbox I found it to be the solinoid that was at fault. Don't quote me on this but I'm sure the part is listed as a gearbox plunger on the Mitsubishi part list and it comes in at around £182+v.a.t personally I got mine from a breakers yard for £15 and I recon they are interchangeable as my pajero is a 2.5 j reg and the solinoid I got was from a 3.0 v6 m reg! 7 months on and I'm still running perfect best £15 I ever spent!![smilie=thatworks.g:
