Uh oh.

Could be overdrive gone awol.....

I presume you know about the o/d button on the gearlever.

The o/drive sensor might be broken ( not too dear ) or could be solenoid, linkages etc.

The overdrive clutch pack might be broken (dear)

The auto transmission fluid might be burnt and need changing (not too dear)
The atf should be checked at temparature and be a red colour not brown and smelly.

This is my best interpretation, others might say different.

Hope that helps.

hi kev thanks alot for the response, i know about the overdrive button and i think its working drops about 200 rpm when i switch it, Ive had the truck about three years now and bought it off a family member and know one can remember changing the transmission oil, heres hoping!!! will keep everyone informed. again thanks

when you get it sorted make sure the transmission oil is changed every year,it,s a good idea to go to mitsy and get a new internal filter,as they are a very fine mesh, and sometimes can block up,i normally change the filter every 3 years.an idea when you drain the oil use a bowl that has marks on it preferably in ltrs, that way you know how much to put back in after you drain it

cheers hutchy will try and get it sorted tomorrow, one other thing is that i ran it tonight until hot and checked the trans oil level with the engine running and it was about an inch above the hot level! now ive never topped it up so could this be anything to do with the problem?

the question is how hot,if you drive the car hard until hot then it,s wise to let it cool for about 15 mins,if it,s just normal driving, than the level should be ok,but firstly when did you last check it when hot, maybe theres been a bit to much oil in there which can cause problems, sometimes as the oil ages it expands more,i would drain the oil and top it up with fresh, then try and see if that cures it,always go for the cheap fix first

hi hutchy, changed the oil today and unfortunatley no change i'm not much of a mechanic so could be time for a trip to the garage!
