engine codes

hi there could anyone advise me plz
i need a replacement engine for 1991 2.5 pajero
it has the code v44 but i have the chance of an engine from a 1990
engine code 4d56 could anyone tell me the differance and will it be ok
to fit into my motor

I had a H plate 2.5 turbo diesel which had a 4D56 engine.

the 2.5 turbo engine is a 4D56T, the T standing for turbo, it has extra strenghtening in the block and con rods, different pistons etc. compared to the non turbo 4D56 engine

yep!! you may need to swap engine mounts and other bits n bobs over
