I have an L Reg - SWB 2.8 Pajero- the Rev counter seems to want to work when it feels like it :?

In the morning with a cold engine it works fine - but after 10 mins of driving across town it ceases and rreturns to the zero position on the dial

any idea guys????

there is a few things it could be

have you had a new stereo fitted just before startied going wrong ?

have you got the cable version ie the big metal box above the rocker cover

has your car mileometer been converted via a box of tricks to miles instead of kilometers

None of the above

I have a new stereo but I fitted it as a direct replacement- just a simple plug an play- using exsisting connector block- I was carefull not to disturb the ECU or any wiring

I'll need to check the box on the Rocker cover as Im not sure what type I have

The speedo ,still reads KM's no alterations or magic boxes involved

It works when the engine is COLD but when it warms up the REV counter dies on me - same every day- go fugure that out lol

that's spooky, i have exactly the same problem! i haven't touched anything, no new radio, speedo still on km/h it just started working when it feels like it, I've noticed that it seems to be better when cold but it still springs into life now and then for a few yards and then dies again?
could this be another 2.8 common fault?

seem to be a common fault for 2.8 maybe

mines ok when its cold but dies when the engine warms up local auto elec could find nothing wrong- he checked all the connections even the ECU no loose wires or anything- guess I'll have to learn to live with it

got me stumped

had the same problem with mine ,narrowed it down to the rev counter itself, took the clocks apart and re-soldered all the connections on the little circuit board on the back of the rev counter. works fine now ,has done for the past twelve months...

Dead easy to remove from inst cluster assembly and replace with your other.
When my old S1 started this I used to whack it to make it work then I had to take it apart and slacken the little phillips screws on the bezel and the fixing screws to the circuit board and reset the whole lot until it was free enough to move by just blowing on the needle.A dab of watchmakers oil or WD40 on the spindle pivot works wonders. ( not more than a half drop tho')
Still works after years.

I have the same problem with my LWB 2.8. Stripped the clock cover off and gently pressed on the printed circuit board behind the rev counter and it fired into life.
Assuming either broken track on circuit board on back or dodgy soldered joint. Will re solder all joints at weekend and re post.
