View Full Version : Hi lifts......
Hey all. i am in the process of purchasing a hi lift but my disco is currently standard. I have a tow bar but i dont think that would be suitable... i also have standard side steps but again i dont think they are suitable either. is there anywhere i could attach a hi lift to should i require to use it with the current setup.? if not whats the quickest and cheap est way of doing so. it would mainly be for changing tyres quickly as apposed to lifting the car 4ft to get out of a hole! thx in advance

hi jamie
i have whats called a lift mate, its a block of rubber with 2 bands on it with hooks on, it slips over your hi lift and hooks on to your wheels, and you lift using that method. the only draw back is that you have to have an axle stand in order to change the wheel safely.
mine cost about £20 from the bay
I have defender wheels which are solid so i dont think thats going to help but still worth while knowing for other people!
Hi lifts in my eyes are not a tyre friendly changing item stick to your original jack  the only time i have used my jack is when doing suspension changes  and then it stays in the garage
Have to agree with Pux, Hi lifts are not stable enough to work on the truck with
jamie save ur pennys and stick to a normal jack
fair doo's thx for the advise. as for saving the penny's -> need a welder still! found one for £108....... Gasless mig 8)

if you were still thinking about a hi lift,
its probly not a good idea given that theres no sensible place to use a hi lift on a disco as found when trying to change wheels on my dads disco 1 before adding jacking points
cheers kieran
Damn, I was just about to buy a high lift... thanks for saving me my money! [smilie=happy.gif]
So any verdict on trolley jacks to bottle jacks? I prefer trolleys meself, but as me Mk1 Paj came with neither, I have the choice!
[smilie=graytard.gi:high lifts are fine if you have the appropraite jacking holes to use, if not then you cant use one
