Hello,

A family friend is selling a 1991 pajero. I have had a look at it. It seems in decent condition for its age. It has the 2.5 diesel unit. The only thing I noticed is that even after 1/2 an hour the heater only put out lukewarm air and the engine temp needle showed cold. Is this indicative of anything I should worry about?

Could anyone tell me the kind of fuel economy these have, as the owner never worried about this and could not tell me.

Is there anything I need to be looking for on this vehicle 120K covered. T

he owner had a couple of belts changed during a power steering revamp. I am not sure whether either of these was a cam belt. Also, what should one expect to pay for one of these cars in average condition.

We live in town and have not had a car for ages, and were thinking of this as a run around with my wife about to have a baby.

Many thanks,

John

not wanting to put you off, but if it is a SWB, getting a baby in and out of the rear seats can be quite a challenge!! It's ok once they are older and can climb in for themselves!!
As for fuel economy, he must be loaded if he never worried about it, they average 20 - 25 mpg if they are seviced and well maintained!

my 2.8 kicked out 25+ but then i drive like an old granny. i would say in the region of 25mpg. things to look for. off roading damage to underneath, last cam belt change it not sure then suggest change anyways. fuel pump can leak so would recommend checking that as your looking upwards of £150 to repair and a lot of work. check tyres are in good order as these can be expencive to replace if caught short. Check for excessive play in the steering. if you got time take a rear and front wheel off and check brake pad condition as they wear frequently. other than that listen for odd knocks or sounds while driving oh and excessive smoke frm the exhaust.

Good luck.
