How big a job is it to change the pump on my 2.8swb as i think the seals are on there way out sometimes it starts when cold then cuts out and then takes a bit of cranking to start up

try the diesel filter first if it is the pump it is a major job ,one for a specialist as the pump needs recalibrating and setting up once its been stripped down there is a guy local to me that does a standard strip down and recalibration for around 500 quid to give you an idea but mine was priced at 1300 quid from another specialist

Get it looked at by a speciallist, but make sure it is the pump coz I had mine done last year at a cost of over 500 squids
