Has anyone got this problem, there's no loss in performance but it has exessive smoke Grey and slightly blue and also has a slight miss-fire and the tappits are getting rattly. would i be right in thinking the tappits just need re-setting or could it be somthing else???

Mis- fire might be due to a glow plug problem. Certain amount of fuel wont be burnt each time and result in lumpy and ruff running.

Does this just happen when you start in the mornings or all the time?

White smoke can be down to fuel pump probs, mine did this when the woodruff key was worn on the bottom pulley causing the fuel pump timing to be off by a notch, drank fuel too!

could be a number of things but i would opt for injecters causing the miss fire and smoke and the tappets just need adjusting as they should be done quite reguler on the 2.5s

keep us informed mate on how you get on

The problem was the tensioner belts wearing to the point that they eventually gave up and snapped  this in turn led to the main cam pulley being literally torn off the cam shaft. So had to buy another engine for £900 managed to get it fitted tested and sorted for £600. Please regulary check your cam tensioners for wear and tear as if left can prove expensive repair job :(

I was having the same problem, we put in new fuel injector seals but now it's smoking, I think in our case the fuel pump needs to be adjusted

Well Candice, it looks like your timeing belt as slipped a couple of noches, putting your timing out, get it checked before more damaged is caused, like the belt snaping and breaking your cam followers etc. [smilie=confuzzled.:[smilie=confuzzled.:

Did you also change the balance belt to, if so whip off the timing cover and see if this as not broke and tripped the timing belt a couple of teeth.
